Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about NEXA Prime 4K storage, winter charging, connectivity, SIM options, and warranty.
Does it really record 24/7, or just when motion happens?
It keeps an always-on low-power timeline running and switches to full 4K when an event is detected. That gives you more context than a sleep/wake motion camera. It is designed for continuous awareness, not a full-resolution 24/7 stream.
Where is the continuous footage stored?
Locally on the camera's TF card slot first; cloud storage is optional. Without a cloud plan, event footage lives on the local card and can be reviewed in the app. With cloud storage, you get 24-hour, 7-day, or 30-day event history depending on plan. No subscription is required for basic local use.
What happens to the camera in winter?
Lithium batteries lose performance in the cold and charging slows down. The internal heater helps the battery keep accepting charge in lower temperatures, but winter sun still matters — a panel placed in direct daylight will always perform better than one under shade or eaves.
How much cellular data does it use per month?
It depends on event frequency, clip length, and Live View usage. A quiet gate may use very little data; a busy driveway will use more. Wi-Fi mode can avoid cellular data entirely. If you're on 4G, smaller plans are usually fine for low-traffic sites, while busier sites should step up a tier.
Which cellular networks does it work on?
The supported service coverage is built around the major U.S. carriers — AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The camera also supports a physical SIM slot alongside the embedded eSIM path, so you can use a compatible carrier plan if you prefer that setup.
Do I have to subscribe to anything?
No. Live view, local TF card storage, and standard detection notifications work without a paid cloud plan. Cloud history and the AI features are optional. Every activation includes a 30-day activation trial of 24-hour rolling event history and AI features so you can see how the full workflow feels before you decide.
Why does AOVIS not auto-switch between 4G and Wi-Fi like some other cameras?
Automatic switching looks convenient in a demo, but in real outdoor installs it can burn battery and make alerts less predictable when signal strength bounces. The app lets you choose the network manually, based on the install site, so the camera stays on the connection you actually want.
Can I use my own SIM card?
Yes. The camera includes an embedded eSIM path for the supported plans and also has a physical SIM slot for a compatible SIM of your own. That gives you a built-in path for quick setup and an unlocked path if you already have a data plan or want to choose your carrier.
What's the warranty? What if it stops working?
AOVIS hardware is covered for 24 months from the original retail purchase date under normal, intended use. If a valid claim is confirmed, we may repair the product, replace it with an equivalent unit, or provide another commercially reasonable remedy, subject to applicable law.
